Creamy Pepper Mushroom Steak Sauce Recipe

The perfect sauce for the steak-lover in your life. A seared ribeye topped with a flavorful pan sauce made from cremini mushrooms, butter, heavy cream  and peppercorns will make you want to skip the restaurant and have date night in. The cremini mushrooms have a slightly fuller flavor than other varieties and stand up more easily against the fat in the heavy cream and butter. With a handful of ingredients it is the only mushroom sauce we recommend. If you don’t believe us, try it and you will see.

Creamy Pepper Mushroom Steak Sauce Recipe
  • 1 lb. cremini mushrooms, washed and thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp minced shallots
  • 2 tsp crushed garlic
  • 4 TBSP butter
  • 3/4 cup white wine
  • 1 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3/4 cup chicken stock
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet, add in the mushrooms, garlic and shallots. Cook, stirring frequently and scraping up any browned bits from bottom of pan, until mushrooms have browned and the liquid is cooked off.
  2. Add in the wine and bring to a boil. Stirring frequently, continue cooking until wine has evaporated, about 5 minutes. Add the stock, vinegar and heavy cream. Bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer. Simmer until the sauce has thickened and can coat the back of your spoon. Season with thyme, salt and pepper.
